Hosting Thanksgiving in My New Home: A Cozy Celebration with Special Touches
This year, I had the incredible joy of hosting Thanksgiving in my new home. There’s something so special about gathering loved ones around your table in a space that’s uniquely yours. It was also the perfect opportunity to incorporate a few personal touches, from converting my sunroom into an additional dining space to using the vintage silver I adore. Here’s a peek into how I made this year’s Thanksgiving both memorable and meaningful.
Converting My Sunroom into a Dining Space
Having recently downsized, I knew I had to be innovative to accommodate our 13 guests. The sunroom is my favorite space in the house, filled with natural light and rich colors and textures. I wanted to create an atmosphere that felt both relaxed and festive, and with the sunroom being the perfect size for extra guests, it made sense to convert it into an additional dining space where everyone could gather. I pulled an old table from storage, used upholstered ottomans and club chairs for seating, kept the table decor simple yet elegant, with a few cozy touches to make the room feel inviting and voila - an additional dining space was set!
Setting the Table
When it comes to setting a table, I love blending the old with the new, mixing high-end with more affordable pieces, and incorporating items that hold personal meaning.
For this Thanksgiving, I pulled out my silver— a set I’ve collected over the years and treasure for its timeless elegance. The gleam of polished silver always has a way of elevating the entire table. But not everything has to be fancy or expensive. In fact, I enjoy incorporating budget-friendly items when entertaining and designing.
This year, I was running a little behind and needed cloth napkins at the last minute. A quick trip to World Market did the trick, where I found the perfect set that blended effortlessly with my china and silver. Layering in candles and fall décor pulled everything together perfectly, making the table feel both timeless and fresh.
Floral Centerpieces: A Personal Touch
One of my favorite activities is arranging flowers, and I had so much fun creating floral centerpieces for both dining tables. I focused on autumn blooms—rich oranges, soft whites, and a pop of lavender—with a few sprigs of greenery to tie it all together. Each centerpiece felt like a little burst of fall, with the colors complementing the season and the mood of the holiday. My guests loved them, and it was a small detail that made everything feel special and personal.
What really made this Thanksgiving memorable wasn’t just the décor or the setting—it was spending time with the people I care about. This year felt like a new chapter in my new home, and it was the perfect way to start the holiday season.
