From Christmas Lights to Cocktails: A London Adventure Filled with Culture, Cuisine & Design Inspiration

London, with its timeless charm and modern flair, truly captivated me during my recent trip. From the iconic sights and rich history to the festive Christmas decorations and exceptional dining experiences, our trip was amazing - and of course, I found endless design inspiration in the city’s art and architecture. Here’s some London highlights I’d love to share with you.

Dukes - My favorite place to stay while in London!

Restaurant Recommendations:

We had an amazing Italian meal at The River Cafe. Set right along the Thames, the view was stunning! It’s a popular spot so be sure to make a reservation.

If you’re craving fresh seafood, J Sheekey in Covent Garden is a must. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, making it the perfect place to unwind after a busy day in London.

For an upscale evening, 34 Mayfair was an absolute highlight, especially as my group and I celebrated New Year’s Eve here. The atmosphere is elegant, the food refined, and the service wonderful—definitely a place to indulge in classic British cuisine with a modern twist.

Chiltern Firehouse is always a favorite of ours. The ambiance is lively and the food is uniquely delicious.

Another great spot for fresh and delicious seafood is Scott’s Mayfair. The whole experience and food was a favorite for our group!

Shopping Highlights:

London's shopping scene is always fabulous, especially around the holidays! Bond Street is very lively and festive during Christmas, with the streets beautifully illuminated by the colorful lights.

For something a little more unique, I loved exploring the many bookshops around the city. Hatchards on Piccadilly is an iconic bookstore, dating back to 1797. The Assouline store was another favorite stop, with beautiful displays and design. The Swan Bar located inside was a great place to stop and enjoy a quick drink.

Sights & Museums:

London’s history and culture, serves as constant inspiration. A visit to Kensington Palace is always a highlight, with its royal heritage and beautifully manicured gardens.

The Wallace Collection is a wonderful museum housed in a beautiful historic townhouse. The exhibits range from fine art and furniture to armor.

Of course, no trip to London would be complete without a visit to the Tate Modern. As a lover of contemporary art, this museum always provides fresh inspiration, both through its thought-provoking exhibits and the building itself, a former power station transformed into a striking piece of architecture. Be sure to grab lunch while there, and enjoy the gorgeous views of the Thames.

Christmas was in the air, and the festive lights throughout the city made every stroll, although quite cold, so enjoyable! Whether it was the lights on Bond Street or the charming displays in Covent Garden, London’s holiday spirit was everywhere, adding that extra layer to our trip.

Favorite Cocktails:

The American Bar at The Savoy Hotel exudes old-world glamour, with a modern edge, making it the perfect place to enjoy a classic cocktail before heading out for dinner.

We love to stay at Dukes Hotel while in London. Bonus - it’s famous for its martinis! The atmosphere here is sophisticated yet welcoming, and it’s one of those spots that is quintessential London.

A Farewell to London

London’s vibrant mix of food, culture, shopping, and design never fails to inspire me. It’s a fascinating city that celebrates the old while embracing the new, offering an endless stream of interesting and creative energy. Returning home from London I’m feeling so inspired and rejuvenated, left with a renewed sense of inspiration and excitement for my current and future interior design projects.
